Sports and Extra Curricular Activities

Here at the York Castle High School we are dedicated to developing the total person mentally, physically, socially and spiritually. In addition to scheduled classes a variety of activities such as clubs and games are offered to the students. The overall purpose of these clubs and societies is to help to develop optimally rounded individuals.

To foster friendly relationships among the wide cross section of the school population
To expose students to a wide variety of sporting, academic and service club activities
To develop in students a sense of belonging to a formal social group, while aiding the development of leadership skills and attitude
Preparing students for the wider world so that they will be able to make valuable contributions here and abroad

Football

Football is a family of team sports that involves, to a varying degree, the kicking of a ball to score a goal.

Track and Field

Track and Field is a sport that includes athletic contests established on skills of Running, Jumping and Throwing..

Cricket

Cricket is a game of strategy between two teams. Each team bats and fields in turn- The batters try to score runs; the fielders try to stop them.

Table Tennis

Table Tennis is a sports in which two or four players hit a lightweight ball, back and forth across a table using small paddles/rackets.

Basketball

Basketball is a game played between two teams of five players in which goals are scored by throwing a ball through a netted hoop fixed at each end of the court.

Hockey

Field Hockey is an outdoor game played using sticks curved at the striking end to hit a small, hard ball into the opposing teams' goal.

Netball

Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. Games are played on a rectangular court with raised goal rings at each end.

Parents are being strongly encouraged to ensure that their child/ward is involved in at least one co-curricular activity at all time throughout their school live. It is important to note that more universities are requesting evidence of co-curricular involvement along with academic transcripts to satisfy the admissions criteria of these institutions. At the University of the West Indies students who apply to the Faculty of Medicine should have school’s officials verify the applicant’s co-curricular involvement on their application form.
